About FC Porto 

FC Porto is a professional football club based in the northern Portuguese city of Porto, currently competing in the Primeira Liga, with its home ground at the Estádio do Dragão.

Team History

Founded in 1893, FC Porto won the first Portuguese National Championship in 1922. In 1935, the club claimed the title of the first Portuguese Primeira Liga. In 1959, Porto narrowly won the Primeira Liga title on the final matchday, after which it endured a 19-year drought without a league championship. The club then won back-to-back league titles in the 1977-78 and 1978-79 seasons.

In 1987, Porto defeated Bayern Munich in the final of the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) to secure the club’s first European title. That same year, they beat Uruguayan side Peñarol in the Intercontinental Cup and Ajax in the European Super Cup, achieving a "treble." From the late 1980s to the 1990s, Porto won the league title 8 times in 10 seasons, including a five-year consecutive league championship streak.

In the 2003 UEFA Cup final, Porto defeated Scottish club Celtic after extra time, claiming the first UEFA Cup in Portuguese football history. In the 2004 UEFA Champions League final, they beat French side Monaco to lift their second Champions League trophy. Porto secured four consecutive Primeira Liga titles from the 2005-06 to 2008-09 seasons. In the 2010-11 season, the club achieved a quadruple. From the 2010-11 to 2012-13 seasons, Porto won three consecutive Primeira Liga and Portuguese Super Cup titles.

Current Situation

On May 18, 2024, the UEFA Club Financial Control Body confirmed that Porto was banned from European competitions for one season and fined €1.5 million for violating Financial Fair Play regulations. In June, Porto manager Sérgio Conceição left his post.

As one of the traditional "Big Three" in the Primeira Liga, Porto has won the top-tier Portuguese football league title 30 times.
