About Real Madrid

Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Real Madrid CF), commonly known as "Real Madrid", is a football club based in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Founded on March 6, 1902, it was formerly known as Madrid Football Club. In 1905, the club won its first ever trophy—the Copa del Rey (Spanish King’s Cup). On June 29, 1920, King Alfonso XIII of Spain added the word "Real" (meaning "Royal" in Spanish) to the club’s name and a crown to its crest, aiming to promote football in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Since then, the club has officially been named Real Madrid Club de Fútbol.

The Most Famous Club

Real Madrid has been home to numerous world-class footballers. On December 11, 2000, it was named the "Greatest Team of the 20th Century" by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). On September 10, 2009, it was recognized as the "Best European Club of the 20th Century" by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). On December 27, 2024 (Beijing time), Real Madrid was awarded the 2024 Globe Soccer Award for Best Men’s Club.
