It currently competes in Serie A (the Italian top-flight football league), with its home stadium at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. ![]() Team HistoryA.S. Roma was founded in 1927. In the 1941/42 season, Roma won its first Serie A title in club history. In the 1950/51 season, Roma was relegated to Serie B, which remains the only relegation in the team’s history. In the 1960/61 season, Roma claimed the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup title. In the 1979/80 season, Nils Liedholm took charge of Roma for the second time; under his leadership, the club won the Coppa Italia twice, claimed the Serie A title in the 1982/83 season, and reached the final of the European Cup the following year, only to lose to Liverpool in a penalty shootout. After Nils Liedholm’s departure, Roma went on to win the Coppa Italia three more times, in 1984, 1986, and 1991. In the 2000/01 season, Roma secured its third Serie A title. The club finished as Serie A runners-up for three consecutive seasons: 2005/06, 2006/07, and 2007/08. Since 2009, Roma has struggled to make breakthroughs in Serie A but has shown competitiveness in European competitions; in the 2017/18 season, Eusebio Di Francesco led Roma to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. On May 26, 2022, Roma defeated Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa Conference League to win the first European trophy in club history. In the 2022/23 season, Roma lost to Sevilla in the final of the UEFA Europa League. |
