Latest updates have shed light on the future of Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez. It's reported that with the Uruguayan striker preferring to stay in Europe ahead of next year's World Cup, Liverpool have set a price tag of £50 million for him.
At Anfield, Núñez's performances have been inconsistent, and consistency has remained his biggest hurdle at Liverpool. He seems to have never fully convinced manager Slott that he can lead the attack at Anfield. Sometimes, other attacking players occupy his preferred position, leaving him to play in other roles.
Previous reports stated that if AC Milan believe a deal with Liverpool is possible, they are expected to make a move for Núñez this week. The 26-year-old forward is the subject of a tussle between AC Milan and Saudi side Al Hilal. Milan are fully prepared to further demonstrate their strong interest in Núñez through a formal offer, aiming to bring the talented striker to San Siro.
In any case, AC Milan need to raise significant funds to compete with Al Hilal. Liverpool are willing to sell Núñez for around £50 million – a sum that poses no problem for Al Hilal. However, Milan hope to sign him on a loan with an option to buy, and for the Rossoneri, a loan with a mandatory buyout clause may be key to persuading Liverpool to cooperate.
If Núñez leaves on loan with a buyout clause, the buyout fee could be £55 million. But Liverpool would rather sell him outright for £50 million.
Reports suggest Al Hilal are still in talks with Núñez's representatives. It's believed Núñez would rather stay in Europe to prepare for the upcoming World Cup year. The Uruguayan international can only hope that a suitable European club can match Al Hilal's offer.
Núñez also sees this transfer as his last chance to prove himself in Europe. It's worth noting that Napoli previously tried to sign Núñez, but the deal fell through due to a disagreement over his valuation with Liverpool.
