According to camel.live, renewal talks between Vinícius Júnior and Real Madrid have reached a stalemate, with his current contract set to expire in June 2027. The Brazilian winger has turned down the club’s renewal offer of €20m net per year, demanding a total annual remuneration of €30m.
Sources indicate the impasse stems from two key factors: first, Vinícius’ strained relationship with head coach Xabi Alonso – the player has made it clear to president Florentino Pérez that he will not renew unless their rapport improves; second, unresolved salary disputes.
Currently earning around €18m net annually, Vinícius rejected Madrid’s proposed €20m net offer. His camp is seeking a comprehensive package of up to €30m per season, including base salary, performance bonuses, and a "renewal bonus" – a component previously unoffered by Real Madrid. This demand is believed to be influenced by teammate Kylian Mbappé’s contract, which features a €15m net base salary plus a €100m-€130m sign-on fee and image rights.
However, Vinícius’ recent form hardly justifies the pay hike. He has contributed just 5 goals and 6 assists this season, with a noticeable decline since failing to win the Ballon d’Or. In contrast, Mbappé has scored 22 goals and provided 3 assists, including a Champions League hat-trick against Olympiacos, gradually surpassing Vinícius in importance. Satisfying Vinícius’ request could disrupt the team’s salary structure, prompting Madrid to pursue a compromise such as a shorter contract to leave room for future renegotiations.
If no agreement is reached, Real Madrid may be forced to sell. Despite a €1bn release clause in his contract, CIES values Vinícius at approximately €166m. Saudi clubs expressed interest in 2024, but the worst-case scenario for Madrid is losing him on a free transfer in 2027, resulting in a total loss of both player and transfer revenue.
Madrid has a history of tough stances in similar disputes: selling 33-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for €100m in 2018, and withdrawing Sergio Ramos’ renewal offer in 2021 due to excessive demands, allowing him to depart freely.
