Bruno Fernandes turned down strong offers from Saudi Arabia this summer, but now he will consider leaving Manchester United after the end of the current season.
After Fernandes' agent flew to Riyadh for negotiations, the player rejected a three-year, £200 million offer (including bonuses) from Al-Hilal SFC.
Since then, his agent has also been linked with two other heavyweight clubs in the Saudi Professional League—Al-Nassr FC and Al-Ittihad FC.
Initially, the Manchester United captain hoped to stay at Old Trafford for another season to avoid any distractions, before going on to represent Portugal in next summer's World Cup.
However, as his 32nd birthday approaches, Fernandes may be open to a new plan and is considering a transfer to Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer (MLS), or a club in one of Europe's top-tier leagues.
The former Sporting CP star has one year remaining on his £280,000-per-week contract, though Manchester United holds the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.
Manchester United's senior management may be willing to listen to offers for their key player next summer, especially after the club recently spent £130 million to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. These two players have replaced Fernandes in the No. 10 role within Rúben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation.
It is worth noting that Fernandes is unlikely to leave Manchester United this summer. However, the situation could shift if Al-Ittihad FC presents him with a "take-it-or-leave-it" offer before the Saudi transfer window closes on September 10—even an offer that exceeds Al-Hilal SFC's proposal, which would have quadrupled Fernandes' salary.
