Team HistoryIn 2014, Major League Soccer announced the establishment of a new club in Los Angeles, tentatively named Los Angeles Football Club. In 2015, "Los Angeles Football Club" was officially confirmed as the team’s name. In 2018, LAFC officially joined MLS and finished third in the Western Conference during its inaugural regular season. In 2019, LAFC won the regular season title, with Carlos Vela claiming both the league’s Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player award. In 2020, LAFC finished as runners-up in the CONCACAF Champions League. In 2021, LAFC ranked ninth in the regular season and missed the playoffs.  Current SituationIn 2022, Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini joined LAFC successively. The team won the regular season title again and claimed its first MLS Cup in club history. In July 2023, Olivier Giroud joined LAFC. That season, LAFC finished third in the Western Conference regular season and lost to Columbus Crew SC in the MLS Cup final, finishing as runners-up. In the CONCACAF Champions League final, LAFC was defeated by Mexican side León, missing out on the title. In December 2023, Hugo Lloris joined LAFC. In the 2024 season, LAFC finished first in the Western Conference regular season but was eliminated by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Western Conference Semifinals, failing to reach the Western Conference Final. |
