Former MLS player Greg Garza gave an interview to Spanish media and discussed Lionel Messi’s influence.
Greg Garza won the MLS Cup with Atlanta United during his career, and he still lives in Atlanta after retirement. He said: “The number of Inter Miami jerseys sold in Atlanta is incredible. You could be at an Atlanta United game, even against FC Cincinnati, and still see people wearing Messi’s jersey.”
“Messi is a benchmark for the league and will go down in its history. After having David Beckham for years, now with Messi, I believe the league will grow even faster.”
Many players dream of playing alongside Messi, and Inter Miami’s latest big signing Beltrame is a clear example. Despite being a star figure at Monterrey, he chose to move to the US to play with Messi.
Garza even joked: “If I were in China or anywhere and got that call to play with Messi, I’d tear up my contract to join him. Playing with your idol is the dream of so many players.”
