Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a transfer fee of €65 million.
Although Zubimendi had a €60 million release clause, Arsenal slightly increased the amount and negotiated installments for the payment. The Spanish midfielder will wear the number 36 jersey for the Gunners. Regarded as one of the world's top defensive midfielders, Zubimendi had been linked with elite clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, but Arsenal ultimately won the "transfer battle" for his signature.
In 2024, Zubimendi helped Spain win the UEFA European Championship and has made significant strides in both domestic league and European competitions. He not only played a key role in Real Sociedad's Copa del Rey triumph but also was instrumental in the team's return to the UEFA Champions League.
The 26-year-old midfielder possesses standout qualities, combining exceptional on-ball and off-ball performance with football intelligence, tactical awareness, and deceptively strong physical attributes in the defensive midfield role. He serves as both a composed passing metronome and a solid defensive shield in front of the backline.
