Prior to the match, the Marseille Police Prefecture has issued a relevant ban, and this measure is soon to be supported by a reinforcement order from the French Ministry of the Interior.
In an official statement, the Marseille Police stated: “Given that the hostile sentiment between Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans has persisted for years, and serious incidents of public order disruption have occurred repeatedly whenever the two teams face off, PSG fans cannot be allowed to attend the match in person for safety reasons. To prevent potential security risks, strict identity verification for ticket purchases will also be implemented for this match.”
It is reported that earlier this season, when Paris FC played away against Marseille, some PSG fans infiltrated Marseille's home ground, the Stade Vélodrome.
This incident was also mentioned in the ban document: “During the match between Marseille and Paris FC on August 23, a PSG fan sneaked into the away section, affixed PSG stickers without permission from Marseille's club, and posted footage of the act on social media. This aroused the anger of Marseille's radical fans, who attempted to storm the stands—fortunately, the police intervened in a timely manner to stop it.”
In addition, a concert by Marseille rapper Jul at Paris' Accor Arena in November 2020 was also disrupted by PSG fans. This incident has also been cited as one of the supporting grounds for the spectator ban.
