
Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced the signing of Bournemouth centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi, with both parties agreeing to a five-year contract.
The transfer fee comprises €60 million, plus €3 million in youth solidarity payments and €3 million in add-on clauses.
Zabarnyi joined Premier League side Bournemouth on 31st January 2023 and made his debut against Brighton on 4th April 2023.
In the 2023-24 season, he proved his strength: featuring in 37 league matches, he was voted by fans as the club’s Player of the Season. He made a significant contribution to the club’s record points tally and historic ninth-place finish in the league.
At international level, the then 18-year-old Ilya Zabarnyi made his Ukraine debut against France at the Stade de France on 7th October 2020, becoming the second-youngest player to earn his first cap for the Ukrainian national team after Serhii Rebrov.
In June 2021, he was called up by Andriy Shevchenko and helped Ukraine reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020. He also participated in Euro 2024, appearing in all three of Ukraine’s group stage matches.
At just 22 years old, he is a cornerstone of Ukraine’s defence, having earned 49 caps and scored 3 international goals. The new Paris Saint-Germain defender becomes the first Ukrainian player in the club’s history, bringing the number of different nationalities to have worn the red and blue jersey to 51.
