Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund was once recommended to Bayern Munich, but the move was politely declined by Bayern.
Manchester United and AC Milan have held talks, with Milan still showing strong interest in Højlund. The 22-year-old forward was even recently recommended to Bayern by Manchester United intermediaries, but was ultimately rejected by Bayern.
Højlund himself has no urgent desire to leave Manchester United; he prefers to stay at the club. However, Manchester United hope to loan him out and include a buyout clause in the loan contract. The forward’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2028.
In Manchester United’s friendly match against Fiorentina on Saturday night, Højlund sat on the bench for the entire game. After the game, he held talks with Manchester United’s management. The club has clearly informed him that after signing Benjamin Šeško, Jeremy Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, there is no longer a place for him in the team. However, Højlund has not changed his mind and still firmly believes he can fight for opportunities under manager Amorim.
Højlund’s resistance to leaving Manchester United stems from his continued self-confidence, but if Manchester United explicitly and unconditionally demands him to leave, he does not rule out changing his mind, even though he previously stated that he prefers a permanent transfer rather than a loan.
It is currently unclear whether a permanent transfer is possible, as Manchester United values Højlund at around £30 million, while Milan hopes to sign the 22-year-old on loan. Højlund has only been in the second year of his five-year contract with Manchester United, but the club decided at the start of this year that if a new center-forward is signed, they would consider selling Højlund.
