Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham has no interest in a surprise transfer to Manchester United. As a result, the Red Devils may shift their transfer focus to another English midfielder, Conor Gallagher.
While United is weighing the possibility of loaning the Dortmund star, it is understood that the 20-year-old midfielder will reject a move to Old Trafford because Ruben Amorim’s side has no Champions League football this season. If he leaves Dortmund, he insists on joining a club that can provide a top-tier European competition platform.
This development may prompt United to accelerate their pursuit of England international and Atlético Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. The 24-year-old has not started a game under Atlético boss Diego Simeone since September, and he is well aware that he needs regular playing time to fight for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad with the Three Lions.
When Jobe Bellingham joined Dortmund from Sunderland for £27 million last July, he was regarded as a landmark signing for the club. However, he has failed to score or assist in 12 appearances so far. More problematic is the growing tension between his father, Mark Bellingham, and Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl. The retired sergeant, who once played in non-league football, clashed with club officials after his son was substituted at halftime on his Bundesliga debut, and even confronted them in the players’ tunnel after the final whistle. These incidents have cast a shadow over Bellingham’s future at Dortmund.
