The charges brought against Manchester City for alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations have almost entirely been upheld.
Specific punishments have not yet been determined, no sanction options have been ruled out, and Manchester City are expected to appeal.
According to sources with knowledge of the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly, all but one of the 115 charges against Manchester City were upheld.
A spokesperson for Manchester City told The Athletic: "The Premier League process remains ongoing, with important elements yet to be completed, and the entire proceeding is subject to strict confidentiality requirements. Accordingly, Manchester City Football Club's position remains consistent with the statement issued in February 2023.
“For eight years, the club has diligently followed due process, grounded in the belief that the Premier League Board and management would fulfill their duties as independent, impartial, and fair regulators, free from factional interests.”
Potential Punishments Manchester City Could Face:
Potential sanctions are clearly set out in Rule W.51 of the Premier League handbook, and should Manchester City be found in breach, the commission can consider a wide array of possible penalties.
The punishments range from reprimands and fines to points deductions, or even expulsion from the Premier League.
Any points deductions could be enforced immediately upon the delivery of the sanction or applied retrospectively, which would open the door to the possibility of Manchester City being stripped of their championship titles.
