According to a report from the Evening Standard, Harry Kane recently spoke in a media interview addressing players such as Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé publicly campaigning and generating hype for themselves in the race for the Ballon d'Or.
Kane: "Everyone has the right to do what they want in this situation. Obviously, the Ballon d'Or has garnered increasing attention in recent years, largely driven by social media, which brings along all kinds of outside noise and overwhelming discussions.
"From my perspective, blowing my own trumpet in that manner simply isn't in my nature. I remain extremely proud of what I have achieved. And on principle, I know my performances last year were as good as anyone's, so I won't shy away from that either. But at the end of the day, my mindset is always to look forward.
"I feel the timing of the Ballon d'Or is quite awkward, because you have already kicked off the new season and your focus is firmly on what you can achieve this year. Yet after every game, everyone is still discussing what you did last year.
"So it is difficult for me to dwell on it. That being said, to win the Ballon d'Or would be incredible, and I would be immensely proud of it.
"I definitely have the quality to contend for this award, without a shadow of a doubt. Time will tell, and the voters will cast their ballots for whichever candidate they prefer.
"As for whether doing more or fewer interviews has an impact on the outcome, it certainly plays a role on a social level and in shaping the narrative around the award, for sure.
"However, regarding the actual voters, I cannot say with one hundred percent certainty. I believe voters will choose the person they feel is truly deserving, based on the information and statistics at their disposal before making a judgment.
"For me, when others talk about me—whether they are teammates, football legends, or others—and praise what I have achieved, I feel far more proud. I think that brings me much greater pride than boasting about myself ever could."
