Nottingham Forest are preparing to sue Tottenham Hotspur. Furious Forest officials allege that Spurs breached regulations prior to the £60 million transfer.
The 25-year-old player has a release clause, which Spurs activated. However, Forest are outraged by their actions and accuse them of having made an "unlawful" approach to the player.
Forest have now told Spurs to cease contact with Gibbs-White, and have sent letters to both Spurs and the Premier League.
Premier League officials may now decide whether to launch an investigation. If an investigation is launched and Spurs are found guilty, they could face substantial fines or even a transfer ban.
While Forest declined to comment, it is understood they attempted to resolve the matter amicably but failed. As a result, they have sent a strongly worded letter to Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League. They have also threatened the possibility of taking legal action.
Spurs declined to comment.
