Toni Kroos: It Was Correct for Nick Woltemade Not to Join Bayern Now

Klaus Markthaus

Nick Woltemade's transfer from Stuttgart to Newcastle caused a sensation, as the German national team striker had been linked with Bayern Munich for several weeks. Toni Kroos has now also voiced his stance on this transfer.

"If you look closely, it's not surprising—because the topic of Isak has been around for a long time, and he no longer wants to play there," the 2014 World Cup winner explained. “The fact that Newcastle was also looking at which strikers were available on the market is not that surprising now.”

For Kroos, the Stuttgart striker's sudden move to the Premier League was indeed a bit unexpected: “What surprises me here is that he pulled it off, because all you kept seeing was that he would definitely join Bayern Munich.”

However, Kroos gave a positive assessment of Woltemade's decision. "From a sporting perspective, I don't think this transfer is bad at all. If he had moved directly to Bayern Munich, I don't know if that would have been the right time," the long-serving Real Madrid midfielder said.

Kroos explained that Woltemade is a great fit for Newcastle in terms of his style of play. "He can play in the Champions League right away and, of course, earn a great deal of money. Not moving directly to Bayern or Manchester City is a very good choice for him."
