Michael Owen has stated that he greatly admires Matheus Cunha, describing him as a highly talented player, but his only worry is the Brazilian’s temperament on the pitch—especially since the team already has Bruno Fernandes. Owen believes Cunha will need to rein in his emotions when playing for Manchester United.
“I think there’s a bit of magic in Cunha. I love watching him play. When I first saw him at Wolves, I thought, ‘Wow, this is a talented player.’ I really rate him, and it’s no wonder Manchester United wanted to sign him; I think he’s very gifted.
“My only question mark is over his attitude. He gets sent off quite often, he’s always waving his arms around, and the team already has someone like Bruno Fernandes. In terms of talent, he’s absolutely worthy of a move to United, but maybe at a big club like United, he might need to be a bit more disciplined.

“You can’t still have that much fire in your belly after the game, then get sent off, argue with referees, and spark scuffles on multiple occasions like he did at Wolves.
“But when you’re a top player, when you carry the weight of the club, when all the pressure is on you, and when all these different things are weighing on you, you can understand it. When you move to United, you’re under even more public scrutiny, and you need to adjust.
“If he sorts that out, I think he’ll be an excellent signing. Like I said, moving to United might make him more disciplined because there are so many big-name players there—some of the greatest stars in the club’s history have been there.
“He won’t feel like a one-man band like he might have at Wolves. So, I think it’s a fantastic signing. But that’s my only concern.”
