In an interview with camel.live, Mikel Arteta spoke about the performances of Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Palmeiras at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Your thoughts on Brazilian teams’ performances at the Club World Cup?
“These teams have given me very positive surprises, because we rarely get to watch Brazilian football in Europe. If I had to highlight two things, it would be first, their competitiveness and individual quality, and second, the fluidity and personality they bring to their play.”
Jorginho left Arsenal to join Botafogo
“We had multiple conversations to understand if we wanted to continue working together, and he made it very clear that he hoped to end his career in Brazil, waiting for the right opportunity. When that opportunity arose, I saw how extremely determined he was on every level.”
“First, on a personal level, it’s related to his family; second, on a professional level, playing in the country of his birth and competing in this league. For me, it’s an honor to have worked with him. I cherished every single day with him—not just as a player, but as a person and a leader. I wish him all the best.”
“We can see that Brazilian clubs are very strong. We’ve noticed their recruitment; it’s a league that is investing and is also very powerful. Their participation in the Club World Cup has allowed all of Europe to see Brazil’s current state and their achievements.”
