Recently, Real Madrid's Brazilian forward Endrick sat down for an interview with Globo Esporte, where he discussed the pressure endured by professional footballers, while placing greater emphasis on the "privileged" nature of the profession, even echoing the famous aphorism by former Real Madrid icon Jorge Valdano that “football is the most important of the least important things.”
On being a professional footballer:
Endrick: “Being a professional footballer isn't hard. Yes, sometimes difficult things happen, but we cannot say that being a player is difficult.”
To illustrate his point, Endrick compared the lives of footballers to those of ordinary people:
Endrick: “True hardship is having to wake up at 5 a.m. and work seven days a week.”
Of course, Endrick did not deny the existence of pressure, but he believes mindset and gratitude are of paramount importance.
Endrick: "We do endure immense pressure, but we must remain grateful for everything that football has given us." He reiterated that footballers are doing what they love: "We are able to earn money and change the lives of our families. Pressure-filled moments certainly exist, but football gives us wonderful things."
