According to the Manchester Evening News, Wayne Rooney recently discussed Manchester City's financial breaches on the podcast Stick to United, stating that he would be unwilling to accept any medal if Manchester City were stripped of their title from that season.
On the final matchday of the 2011-12 season, Manchester City clinched the league title courtesy of Sergio Agüero's last-gasp winner against Queens Park Rangers. Manchester United finished as runners-up that campaign, having held a points advantage heading into the final stretch of the season.
Rooney: "I heard Rio [Ferdinand] say he would like another Premier League medal, but hand on heart, I wouldn't really want another Premier League medal. I don't think we deserved that title; we weren't good enough that season to win the league. I remember with four or five games to go, we were six or seven points clear, and we blew the title.
"I've seen what has happened over the past few days and listened to people's opinions, and I try to put myself in the shoes of the Manchester City players. They are players; they gave everything to win the Premier League, and in their eyes, they did that. If those players didn't know what was happening above them, and if that happened to me, I would be absolutely devastated.
"It might happen; they might take the medals back, but I wouldn't want it because I don't feel that we, as a team that year, deserved it. So when I see teammates saying, 'I want a medal,' I'm quite content with the five medals I already have.
"Should they dismantle the car because of what the previous owner did? Maybe they should, but I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting it."
