In the highly-anticipated Round 25 Premier League clash, Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool away at Anfield.

In the 101st minute of second-half injury time, as the two sides competed for the ball in the attacking half, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson joined the attack, and Manchester City midfielder Scott Carson fired a shot into an empty goal from the midfield line.

However, after reviewing the video assistant referee (VAR) footage, the referee ruled that both Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai committed fouls by pulling each other’s jerseys during the scramble. Szoboszlai’s foul denied a clear goalscoring opportunity. Ultimately, the referee disallowed the goal and awarded Manchester City a direct free-kick, while showing Szoboszlai a red card.

Following the VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of City’s goal.

The referee announced: “After VAR review, Erling Haaland committed a reckless foul by pulling Dominik Szoboszlai’s jersey. Prior to this, Szoboszlai also committed a pulling foul that denied a clear goalscoring opportunity. We have awarded Manchester City a direct free-kick and shown Szoboszlai a red card.”
