Napoli are one of the potential suitors for Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling. However, the Italian champions, who already have former Premier League stars Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour in their ranks, hope to sign Sterling on loan, similar to how Arsenal did last season.
Chelsea have made it clear that they aim to secure a permanent transfer for the former England international.
Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in the 30-year-old Sterling.
Sterling has two years remaining on his contract with Chelsea, with a weekly wage as high as £325,000. Looking back to last summer, in the late deal that saw Sterling join Arsenal on loan, Chelsea covered the majority of his wages.
If Sterling leaves Stamford Bridge again this year to restart his career, both parties may need to make compromises.
Napoli turned their attention to Sterling after their attempt to sign Bologna winger Dan Ndoye fell through. Ndoye is also a target for Nottingham Forest, and Napoli is growing impatient with this Serie A rival.
McTominay as a Role Model; Chelsea Eyes Two Young Talents
Napoli provides an excellent example for Sterling, showcasing the possibility for Premier League stars to make a fresh start overseas. Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay reinvented himself at Napoli, becoming a club hero and playing a key role in last season’s success.
